The Greeks
The powerful empire of the Ancient Greeks lasted from 8th to 6th centuries BC to 146 BC but the Roman conquest of Greece after the Battle of Corinth saw an end to the reign. Classical Greece lasted from the 5th to 4th centuries BC, at first under Athenian leadership successfully repelling the military threat of Persian invasion.
Classical Greek culture provided a civilization that grew to provide western European society.
